Year 2018

We're halfway there, folks. Halfway back to the weekend. Woo! After this, it's just that slide downhill. I've got D&D coming up. I'm ridiculously happy about that, as I'm hoping we can finish off the story arc we're currently on. Not that I've disliked the arc, of course, just that it's hitting a climax point and it'll be nice to move on to a new adventure. You don't become an adventurer to stay just in 1 town for your whole career, after all. So, as I get prepped to take over a town because they were allowing an underground slavery ring to operate there, I should make sure I'm well-fed on bite-size gaming stories.

Today on the platter we have: Roll 4 Initiative Diffusion Dice Up On Kickstarter, Kraken Dice Releasing Trapped Innocence Dice Today, Talk Wargaming Teaches Us About Airbrushing, Impact! Miniatures Presents: The Lost KS Mini Project, and New Dwarves Available From Scibor Miniatures.

I am the law!

In the far-flung and future world of 2000 AD, the Judges are every level of the law out on the streets. Judge, jury, and often executioner, they ride the mean streets of the Megacities and keep things as they should be. Now, you can take on the role of Judge, as the Judge Dredd & The Worlds of 2000 AD RPG game is up on Kickstarter now.

The Latari elves in Runewars have had a rather troubled past. Wars, exile, and isolation. But when evil comes a-callin', they have heroes looking to take it on, rather than continue to ignore the outside world. One such is Prince Faolan. Get a look at his stats and abilities for Runewars in this preview from Fantasy Flight.

Tabletop games bring people together. But when those people are spread all over the world, it can be difficult to end up in the same room to game. Thankfully, that "same room" just needs to be "all of the people are in rooms with computers and internet connections" thanks to Roll20. They've expanded their content for Pathfinder with the Bestiary release. Need to throw more monsters at your party? Now you can.

My favorite way for people to get into a game is via a 2-player starter set. You and a buddy can split the costs and get going right away with a set each. You don't have to worry about figuring out what factions play well against each other, or if you've got a good starter force to learn with. Everything's right there for you. The folks at Bad Roll Games are looking to create just that for Punkapocalyptic, and they've launched a Kickstarter in order to get it funded.

Discover: Lands Unknown is Fantasy Flight's upcoming unique board game. Every single box will contain different components from the rest. No two sets will be fully the same. However, the overall theme of the game is the same: you find yourself out in the wilderness and you must survive. Of course, there's a lot of dangerous things out there, including animals and monsters who might try and eat you for dinner. In this preview, we get a look at how combat works in the game.

You know, I love games that have a slightly different angle on them. So many stories exist out there, but so many games boil down to "murder hobo in Tolkien-land" or "murder hobo in space." The Forest Hymn & Picnic is different. It's about oddballs and missfits living in a strange wood, and is much more something like Peter Rabbit than Lord of the Rings. The game's up on Kickstarter now.

Off we go into the wild, black yonder. Why settle for adventuring in just one world, when you can go and adventure on a thousand worlds? That's what you can do in Impulse Drive, a new sci-fi RPG that's up on Kickstarter now. Adventure awaits in every corner of the galaxy, and it's your job to go find it.

You young'ins might not remember this one, or wonder what the heck's going on when someone talks about an RPG where you play a rabbit out in a field, but Bunnies and Burrows is a beloved RPG from back in the day. Now, Frog God Games is looking to update the rules and bring a 3rd edition to tabletops. They're up on Kickstarter now.

Sometimes you really want to stretch your brain out with a game. You've got simpler fare, but occasionally you want to really sink your teeth into a tactically deep affair. That's what you get in War for Indagar, up on Kickstarter now, by Happy Gorilla Game Studio. The game features several factions, all of which have different strategies of play, as well as various heroes that work differently, too. Since the game board is randomly determined each match, you're guaranteed a wealth of replayability.

Monday's gone. Tuesday is upon us. It's cooler outside and off-and-on rainy. I've got my Type O Negative playlist going on Spotify. I couldn't be much happier. Though I'm about to swap out for some gaming podcasts. Which ones? Well, these...

Today on the dial we have: Chance of Gaming Episode 115; Rolling Dice & Taking Names Episode 153: Cryptid, Taj Mahal, and Gizmos with special guest, David Waybright; The Cardboard Herald Episode 97: Andy "The Game Maker" Mazeika, with guest host Andrew Birkett; Blue Peg, Pink Peg episode 131: Detective; The Secret Cabal Episode 167: War Chest, Massive Darkness and A Short Topic Extravaganza; and Geeks of the North Episode 46: Season 2: We are back!

We've all probably played Rock, Paper, Scissors. It's a pretty ubiquitous game, dating back hundreds of years. Tri-Hand takes the game and adds in new elements. It's a deck of cards to play not only Rock, Paper, Scissors, but also a whole host of other games. The deck will be making its way to Kickstarter next month.

It's just a couple more weeks until Steamforged releases Season 4 of Guild Ball. I know I've already got my new deck pre-ordered. And I definitely want to keep seeing previews. In this one, it's a player I've seen across the pitch a lot, as Ray loves to use him. It's Boiler, the kid on the Butcher's Guild. How's he changing in Season 4? Let's take a look.

There's not much to do for a hero if there's no enemies to fight. Sure, you could go help Farmer Johnson fix the wheel on his wagon, but c'mon, you've got this armor and this axe and these lightning bolt spells. You need some foes to fight! Some wrongs to right! Some broccoli caught in your teeth. In this preview, we get a look at the enemies you'll find in Heroes of Terrinoth.

They call me the breeze. I keep blowin' down the road.

The wind is a wild and fickle thing. Sometimes, we're happy for a cool breeze on a hot day. Other times, it's a hurricane gale destroying all around us. Arcane Wonders is bringing the wind to Onitama. The new expansion, Way of the Wind is coming next month. In this preview, we get a look at how you have to both deal with and can harness the wind in the game.

I'm always a fan of a game with a unique angle on things. So here we have Party Bugs from Z-Man Games. You and your friends are having a disco dance party, when a group of costumed cockroaches show up. Of course, nobody wants costumed cockroaches at their party, so you're trying to get the annoying bugs to go bother your friends. That's... not a set-up for a game you hear very often.

Actions have consequences. That's true in real life as it is in fake life. Petals and Thorns, a new adventure for 5th Edition and Pathfinder that's up on Kickstarter now places players in a region being fought over by five different factions. Who will they ally themselves with? Which group has the true thoughts of the region in mind? That's up for you to figure out.

Death doesn't have to be the end of it all, especially not in a fantasy setting. While the basic rules cover certain necromantic spells, there's not a whole ton of it going around in detail in 5th Edition. That's where Whispers of Persephone come in. It's a new Necromancy Sourcebook that's up on Kickstarter now. (This post typed while Love You To Death plays on Pandora. Seemed fitting).

In many sci-fi settings, the future is a pretty bleak place. Dystopian governments, alien takeovers, megacorporations only out for themselves. It's a bit dour. But Return to the Stars shows things in a more positive light. The future's going to be awesome and you can be a part of it. The game is up on Kickstarter now.

I always think it's cool when a company has the rules for their game available to the public. I realize the need to make money on a rulebook, but I also love trying before I buy. The folks over at Assault Publishing have decided to release the rules for their Shadows in the Void sci-fi ship combat game as a free pdf download over on their website. If you've been wanting to check them out, now's your chance.

Well, it's the price we pay for having a weekend: there has to be a week to go with it. Can't have up without down, light without dark, left without right, weekend without week. But we'll make it back to the weekend eventually. Also, it's Autumn! Woo! *dances around with pumpkins in the falling leaves* So, as it's Monday, lets get your gaming tables looking good.

Today in the Terrain Corner we have: Tabletop Scenics Taking Orders For Genetorum, Badlands Gaming Mat Available From Pwork Wargame, and The Wizard's Tower 3D Printable Terrain Up On Kickstarter.

Even though the original Tails of Equestria rulebook has an intro-adventure in the back, some players would like to have something a bit more involved. That's where the new Tails of Equestria Starter Set comes in. It's available now from River Horse and has everything you could need to start on your pony adventures.

When you're a GM, it can be difficult to come up with literally everything possible in the entire world at any given moment your players ask for it. Even the best improvisers will sometimes be at a lack for anything truly interesting, so they just go with, "eh, you don't see anything." Kinda dull. That's where Dungeon Discoveries card decks come in from LoreSmyth. They're up on Kickstarter now and aimed at adding all sorts of interesting details to your games.

We've got another addition to the Year of New Editions. In this case, Keymaster Games has announced they're coming out with a 2nd edition of Control, their time-travelling card game. This new version will be more portable than the previous, as well as have updated rules. Pre-orders will take place along with their Campy Creatures Expansion I Kickstarter Backerkit.

The Year of New Editions continues along into its last quarter. Still plenty of time to check out how games you love have been updated. In this post, we get a look at the monsters and combat coming in the 3rd edition of Arkham Horror. What sort of digusting otherworldly creatures will you be fighting? Check it out.
