Year 2019

Bushido, the miniatures game with far-Eastern flair from GCT Studios, is getting a new edition soon. Along with pre-orders for the new 2-player starter, you can get five of the different clan starter boxes as well.

When you're sick, you go get some medicine and get fixed up (or, at least, that's the idea). The people of River's End have been relying on a wizard named Mortimer for the Dragonberries that he creates. It's the only thing that will keep their wither rot disease at bay. But now Mortimer's gone. What will happen to the town? That's up to you in Reaping at River's End, a new RPG adventure for D&D and Swords & Wizardry that's up on Kickstarter now.

Straight from the source. Want to know more about a game that's being developed? Going right to the designer is a good start, and that's what CMON's done in this video for Trudvang Legends. Hear as Eric M. Lang talks about The Legends System in the game.

With the golden age of gaming we've got going on right now, more people than ever are joining the nerdy masses. Many of them are looking to try some of the classic games they've heard of for so long, including Dungeons & Dragons. But where can they get everything they need to get playing? That'd be the Essentials Kit, just released from Wizards of the coast. It's even got a 1-on-1 variant, essentially making it a 2-player starter set for D&D.

USAopoly has a new Harry Potter game in the works. It's called Death Eaters Rising and it pits the gang of misfit wizards against the evil Lord Voldemort and his cohort of Death Eaters (I mean, I eat some super-hot pepper sauces, but I wouldn't say that I eat death).

The folks behind Shadows of Esteren are at it again. This time around, it's a new setting guide for Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition. If you're looking for a new, colorful world in which to set your game, look no further than Fateforge. The book is up on Kickstarter now.

Longtime readers know my love of 2-player starter sets for games. With a single purchase, you can get gaming right away with a friend. No need to worry about what, exactly, to pick up for a starter force, or make sure you have the right rules or dice or counters. The folks behind Trilaterum feel the same way, so they've got their new 2-player starter set, Encounter at Sarin's Rim, now available.

So, you're a kid on your bike, tooling around the neighborhood, but you long for something more. You look out into the stars and wish you were there. In Renegade Game Studios' Teens in Space, that's just what you'll get to do. The new RPG coming in August uses the Kids on Bikes game system, but blasts off into the cosmos. Pre-orders are being taken now.

Who doesn't love a good trilogy? And while there are plenty in movies and books, they're also found in games. Succubus Publishing is running a Kickstarter for their own trilogy, Middara: Unintentional Malum. It's an epic trio of cooperative board games and you can back to get them all for yourself.

Tuesday. We're into the week, proper. It's been a busy start, and it's going to be a busy continuation. That's fine, since next week will be a short one. But to have a short week, gotta get everything done in the meantime. So, here we are. To help get you through the day, we've got our regular spot of gaming podcasts. Let's listen in.

This week on the dial we have: Chance of Gaming Episode 33; Blue Peg, Pink Peg Episode 149: Origins 2019; Meeples & Miniatures Episode 270: UK Games Expo 2019 & OML7; Nerdherders Episode 33 (123): Returnherders; Morrus' Unofficial Tabletop RPG Talk Episode 53: A Touch More Class with Mike Myler; Geeks of the North Episode 77: Pulp ramble; and All Us Geeks Episode 89: The Geeks Go On A Few Runs In The Shadows.

The suave personality. The fancy clothes. The cool cars. The futuristic gadgets. Spies certainly have a lot going for them. Sure, there's possible death around every corner, but I think it's worth the risk. ... Not in real life, of course. I'm talking about in an RPG where you can just brush yourself off and keep going, no matter what happens. That's what you can do in Super Secret Spy Agency, a new RPG from the creator of Ghost Ops and Delve that's up on Kickstarter now.

August 1st. That's when Pathfinder: Second Edition hits shelves. It's not all that far away, really. But what can you expect from this new version of the RPG? In the first of what will be an ongoing series, Paizo gives us a look at what changes have been made, but also what has remained the same.

It's Frankinsteen.

Ok, maybe it's not. Maybe it is Frankenstein. But even if you're not Gene Wilder (and don't we all wish we were?), you still have monster-making in your blood. Plaid Hat is showing off an introduction video for their upcoming Abomination: The Heir of Frankenstein board game, Have yourselves a look.

... ... Blucher!!!

While the game may be called Mansions of Madness, those mansions aren't always in New England somewhere. In Path of the Serpent, the new expansion announced by Fantasy Flight, the investigators will be making their way to the Amazonian rainforest, braving biting insects, ancient curses and traps, and huge snakes (as one would expect from the expansion's name). There's new tiles, new investigators, new monsters, and just a lot of new everything for you to check out.

Listen to the wind blow. Watch the sun rise.
Running in the shadows. Damn your love. Damn your lies.

Sovereign's Chain is a new card game from WizKids coming soon. In it, players will create a chain of cards in front of them made up of two different suits. At the end of the game, the player with the largest difference in points between their two suits is the winner.

Many RPGs take shortcuts when it comes to combat. At the very least, it tends to put things in 2 dimension and just kinda doesn't do much with elevation. Zafir: Tactical RPG looks to make it much more granular. As you can tell from "Tactical RPG" in its name, it looks to give you a combat system that is full of potential tactical choices each round for your characters. The book is up on Kickstarter now.

Getting an army all at once saves a lot of time and effort. You make a single purchase and boom, you're ready to go (after the glue dries, of course). That's the offer that Mantic is giving you right now, with a pair of Basilean army bundles for Kings of War. Get a whole army in a single go.

If you've been waiting for some new City of Mist books and supplies, now's your chance. Modiphius has whole new print editions of items like the MC Toolkit, Player's Guide, GM Screen, and more. If you're not sure, you can go check out a free PDF Starter Set first. Try before you buy.

I think it's safe to say that we've all got friends. You know, the people you like hanging out with. Many of us probably have frenemies. They're people who you may not like all that much, but hang out with and occasionally really needs to get something done. Semantics aside, you can now pick up the Friends & Frenemies expansion for Buffy The Vampire Slayer: The Board Game. You can pick up your copy from Jasco Games now.

And we've rounded back to Monday. ... I guess it was inevitable. Oh well. Let's make the best of it and make sure that people's game tables look as good as possible.

Today in the Terrain Corner we have: Fantasy Village Pieces Available From War World Gaming, Wine Barrel Set 1 Available From Tabletop-Art, and Hive City Street Billboard Available From Tabletop Scenics.

Clank! is a board game. It's a card game. It's a board game. It's a card game. It's a board game AND it's a card game. Why have just a regular deck-builder when you can have a board game as well? If you're enjoying Clank!, but want there to be more, you're in luck. Renegade Game Studios are taking pre-orders for the next expansion: Temple of the Ape Lords.

Using miniatures when playing an RPG may not always be 100% necessary, but I, for one, really prefer it. Theater of the mind is fine, but I like having physical representations of things out on the table to keep track of things. Modiphius is here to help for those playing the Star Trek RPG with their new Iconic Villains minis set. You can order yours now.

Fateforge is a new setting book for 5th edition coming to Kickstarter soon. In preparation, a Player's Guide has been posted online for you to check out. See some new feats, some new characters, and plenty more to whet your whistle for this new book.

Warlord Games has some new kits that are available on their website. You can pick up some new Riflemen for Black Powder. Then there's the Edgehill Characters or Pike & Shotte. And then, uh... there's Oxen. These can be used in just about all of Warlord Games' games.

Well, that's a kit that's been around for quite some time mostly unchanged. It's the Leman Russ. Games Workshop has retooled the old Imperial Guard mainstay. There's also a new Warhammer Underworlds deck called Power Unbound. Both of these are available to pre-order now from their website.
