Jiyu Board Game Up On Kickstarter

I used to play Chess a whole lot. I was never amazing at it, but I got to be pretty decent. So, I've always got a little bit of respect for games like it. Jiyu is such a game. However, it doesn't just have you move pieces across a board. You get to decide which pieces you have, incorporating RPG elements into the play as well. Plus, if you get two boards and put them together, you can join a cooperative mode with your friend to take on the enemy. The game is up on Kickstarter now.

From the campaign:

After working for many years on world-class card games and board games such as THE GWENT (The Witcher Card Game), Dungeon Gems, Faeria and many more and not limited to IPs for video games and movies such as Lord of the Ring, Walking Dead, Pacific Rim 2, Ready Player One, Gauntlet, and many others; Tokkun Studio veteran team (based in France & Japan since 2006 - www.tokkunstudio.com) are here to present our own adventure in board game form called JIYU - the board game ("Freedom / Free Will" in Japanese), A Strategy RPG oriented chess based battlefield. JIYU is based on an original idea and art direction by Benoit FERRIERE. During the game, you take on the command of one of the two clans , The Mighty Samurai or The Villainous Yakuza clan. Each one having their own sets of techniques, moves, attacks, buff & debuff. We brought this concept of combat into JIYU in order to make a fantasy world with unique combat mechanics come into a reality with you.

JIYU is a game of Chess or Shogi but pumped up to 11! Using RPG elements infused with strategic gameplay. You will be able to create your own character decks (YOU define the buildup of your deck using various units).

In addition to a lot of RPG (Role Playing Game) cardlike equipment, weapon, actions and movement cards will allow you to reverse the situation at any time of the game and create your way to victory.

And that's not all, because you can also play cooperatively by connecting another boardmap and expand the battlefield to create a Team deathmatch where you need to work together to assist your teammates while disrupting and eventually destroying the enemy.

The game's about 1/6 of the way to its funding goal with 23 days left to go.
