Tuesday already? These weeks do seem to just be going by quickly. That's not a complaint, mind you. Let's rush on to 2020 boldly. Just barrel our way into it headlong. I mean, why not? And to propel us there, let's listen to some gaming podcasts.
This week on the dial we have: Rolling Dice & Taking Names Episode 187: Paladins of the West Kingdom, Taverns of Tiefenthal, Miyabi; Morrus' Unofficial Tabletop RPG Talk Episode 77: Dungeons & Wubbalubbadubdub The Rick and Morty Starter Set; Blue Peg, Pink Peg Episode 160: A War of Whispers; The Secret Cabal Episode 196: Cthulhu Death May Die, Cerebria and Loss Aversion in Board Games; and Tabletop Talk Episode 51: Ophelia LaCroix (Bayou) Deep Dive with Jesse Ellis.
Marty goes off to BGG Con and plays tons of games. He comes back and you would think he would be all giddy about a game, but if you have been listening to us long enough, that isn’t going to be the case. He is excited about grit balls. You read correctly, fried balls made of grits. Okay, he was excited about the games.
Paladins of the West Kingdom hurt us. Yeah, that is right, this game but the grey matter through a work out and it was a good work out. This is a great next step in the series and one that needs a few plays to really get a grasp of this game.
The Taverns of Tiefenthan is a lighter deck building, dice drafting, engine building game that might be something to introduce newer games too those particular concepts. Very simple mechanics, quick to learn and not too competitive. Looking forward to more plays of this game with the modules that we will need to discover on our own.
This week, Morrus and Peter take a look at the Rick and Morty Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set! In the news, Chaosium snags the license to Rivers of London series, a new D&D charity release, Pathfinder Kingmaker video game getting a sequel, a new live stream to replace Dice Camera Action, and more! Plus a dog plays D&D for the first time in a brand new sketch!
1) The Pegs discuss their recent game plays including Awkward Guests, Terra Mystica: Merchants of the Sea, Extraordinary Adventures: Pirates! and many more;
2) All the Pegs review A War of Whispers by Starling Games; and
3) Look back at Porta Nigra by Stronghold Games.
Hey Now Cabalists! In episode 196 the gang starts out by discussing Chris' brand new hair color and Jamie's time at BGGcon in Dallas Texas. Then the Founders get busying reviewing Cthulhu Death May Die designed by Rob Daviau and Eric Lang and published by CMON and look back at Arkham Horror 3rd Edition, Blood Bowl and Cerebria. Then, since Tony T is traveling for Thanksgiving, Steve takes over the news duties while the rest of us goof around in the background. Then finally we discuss the concept of Loss Aversion in board gaming.
Join Craig as his guest, Jesse Ellis, reveals how to get the most from Ophelia and the Kin crew. What models make up the core crew? What models does she bring in for certain pools? What strategies does this crew excel in? How can someone beat them? Opponents will want to pay attention or she will make you flinch and the bigger you are, the harder you'll fall.
