If you're in the market for a new gaming system that can handle just about anything (even going diceless, if that's your kind of thing), you'll want to check out the Advanced Story Points System. It's a new game system that's up on Kickstarter now.
From the campaign:
Welcome to the Advanced Story Point System, or ASPS (like the snake). Here's a sample to check out while we tell you more about it: ASPS Beta Summary.
ASPS consists of two things – a core game engine made to be quick and easy - and the ability to create shells – a framework you can design, tailored to your specific game world, with mechanics you’ve built to fit with your vision.
A shell is the unique qualities of the setting the game master wishes to present, and the ASPS engine is designed to allow the game master to build the world they want to run, with the specific mechanics the game master wants present to reflect that world. Instead of having the game master and players force their vision into a game engine which might not be suited to that kind of storytelling, the ASPS engine flexes to fit their vision instead.
This allows the game master to run their game with virtually any theme, and gives it the feel the game master wants: whether it’s science fiction, horror, high fantasy, super heroes, or some other style or setting, the Advanced Story Point System is made to let the game master tailor the game to their needs. Because the core engine is so stripped down and streamlined, this also provides the benefit that a character from one setting can transfer to another – without the need to modify the character sheet at all.
The campaign's up and running now with 27 days left to go.
