War and Aether Fantasy RPG Up On Kickstarter

Tired of all the other RPGs out there? Want to try something new? Want something that's a bit more grounded? Then you should check out War and Aether. It's a new low-fantasy RPG that's up on Kickstarter now.

From the campaign:

War and Aether is a low-fantasy, tabletop role-playing game that takes a greater focus on skills and realism over it's counterparts. The game is classless where Professions - jobs like Farmer or Hunter - will get you started but nothing locks into one play style over another. As your character advances in level they will get a number of skill points, investing those skill points into skills not only makes you better at them but at different thresholds reward you with Talents. Most of your character building is going to come from how you invest your skill points. As you continue along your character's journey you'll gain Advancements, giving your character special boons and unique abilities to further cement your playstyle. For spellcasters, the magic system of the game is one where you gather spell components across your journey and use those components to build every spell from scratch. The more components you use and the more magic you use, the more complex and powerful the spell becomes, but the longer it takes to cast. This is a rough game where death comes easily for the unprepared and knowledge quickly becomes power. It has also been designed from the ground-up to be simple and friendly to people who've never played a tabletop before, and yet complex and deep enough for veterans not to get tired of playing it.

I have a degree in graphic design and have years of experience with personal writing; so I'm confident in making the book itself, but I'm brand new to the distribution/publishing process. As well as I'm new to doing anything on such a public format, so please be patient with me as I'm figuring this out as I go along. But before I can think about distribution, I need to finish the book. For that end, I need to reach a goal of $1,000 to be able to support the book with a minimum amount of greyscale art-pieces for the chapter covers. Once they're in, I'll be working the finishing details on the book and after that the digital copy will be complete. Anything more I raise will go towards furthering the book. With about $3,000 I can turn all of the greyscale art into color (see the Chapter 1 art below for reference, look at how pretty that is!). With about $12,000 I reckon I can make physical, hard-cover copies of the book. And anything beyond that will go towards additional art across the entire book; manufacturing War and Aether playmats, custom GM screens, and more; and just overall turning this passion-project into a full-time job that I can continue to support with expansion books, novelizations, and other unique tabletop systems that I already have in the works.

I've set the campaign to be 60-Days, as that's about the time it will take for me to get the next few pieces of art commissioned, and at which point I will no longer be able to support the project by myself.

The Kickstarter's just up and over its goal with 22 days left to go.
