Osprey Games Launches Through The Hedgerow: A Rustic Fantasy RPG of Hope and Heroism

Osprey Games has launched Through The Hedgerow, a new fantasy roleplaying game written by Jonathan Rowe and illustrated by Peter Johnston. The game presents a mix of folk horror, fairy tale elements, and historical settings.

Set in a world where supernatural forces battle for control of the countryside, Through The Hedgerow features a cast of characters that includes both Fay creatures and mortals. Players take on the role of Knights of the Briar Company, tasked with protecting the magic and essence of the land against the forces of darkness. This battle spans different periods in history, from the Dark Ages to the Industrial Revolution and World War II.

In this game, players can embody various characters, including immortal Fay such as sorcerous birds, intelligent spiders, or animated scarecrows. Alternatively, they may play as mortals drawn from different points in time, each caught up in the ongoing struggle between light and dark.

One of the key features of Through The Hedgerow is its Checks & Challenges system, which emphasizes narrative collaboration and problem-solving over traditional combat. As Jonathan Rowe explains, players cannot rely solely on brute force or magic to succeed; instead, they must engage with the unfolding story using their wits, charm, and creativity.

The game’s scenarios often involve interacting with historical figures facing personal challenges, adding depth to the narrative. Players are also tasked with uncovering magical treasures, defending important locations, and confronting enemies like the Raven Margrave and other dark forces seeking to bring chaos to the land.

Through The Hedgerow is now available for purchase through Osprey Games.
