Horror

It's started to get cooler out, even here in Atlanta. Highs will soon drop below the 90s and lows might dip into the upper 50s. Autumn is nearly upon us, and with it comes the haunting season. All things ghoulish are coming, including Fantasy Flight's Arkham Nights 2019, a 3 day festival of all things horror and weird based on H.P. Lovecraft's work. Tickets are available now.

Just as WWI was at its climax, a strange fog permeated the Argonne forest, killing and warping whomever tried to go into it. This brought the conflict to a swift end, as entire armies were swallowed by it. Now, 66 years has gone by with the fog staying mostly still. But now it is growing. What is in store for the world? That's for you to find out in Eldritch Century, a new alternative history RPG that's up on Kickstarter now.

Labor Day. Time for one last summer beach trip before Autumn and eventually Winter takes over the Northern Hemisphere. If you're looking to stock up on some gaming gear before the weather turns cold, GobboTown Games is running themselves a sale over in their webshop for their Cthulhu Xothic Wars minis. But head over now, as these deals won't last forever.

Dead of Night. Some people might use that term to describe when I wake up in the morning and start work (been up since 2:30am. No alarm clock required. And no caffeine consumed). But it's also the name of the next expansion coming up for Arkham Horror. As one would expect, there's some new Investigators incoming. In this preview, we get a look at them.

Zombies, zombies everywhere. Will you manage to keep yourself together and your brains in your head? It's not going to be easy in Outbreak: Undead. The new second edition is coming and Renegade Game Studios is taking pre-orders for the GM's Guide now. It's everything required to put the fear of death into any player.

Yes, you read that right. IDW and CMON are teaming up to bring you Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for Zombicide. They had some issues when the sets first were announced, but things look like they're working better now. You can head over and pre-order your sets now.

Some new miniatures are available for Achtung! Cthulhu from Modiphius. They're the Unleashed version of Sing and Araine. And, I have to admit, the effect on the Singh Unleashed miniature is rather interesting. These figures can be used in your RPG games or games of the Achtung! Cthulhu minis game.

I wake up at a ridiculously early hour. I know people who generally go to bed later than I wake up. So, I am often up during the "dead of the night." And yes, even just sitting in my apartment, things can get weird. Though, I've yet to have other-dimensional horrors try and show up. You're not so lucky in Dead of Night, a new expansion coming for Arkham Horror from Fantasy Flight Games.

The horrors of WWII were immense. And that's just the real world before you throw in other-dimension horros like Cthulhu. But that's just what happens in Achtung! Cthulu from Modiphius. And to help you bring that existential horror to your tabletops, they've got a quartet of new miniatures sets available over on their website.

Building and maintaining a town in the Old West isn't easy. You've got bandits, desperados, demons, monsters, drought, and all sorts of things to worry about. Wait... Demons and Monsters? Yeah, they're roaming around as well. Keeping the peace just got a lot harder in Hard West, a new strategy board game that's up on Kickstarter now.

Ok, so it doesn't have Tim Curry as Pennywise, bu the new IT movie was still really good. And soon, you'll be able to bring all the floating action down to your tabletops in IT: Evil Below, a new horror board game coming from USAopoly. They've posted up a new preview as well as a little video showing off how the game works and what you'll be getting inside the box.

Many Eldritch Horror games take place last century (in fact, roughly about a hundred years ago from now). But The Orpheus Protocol brings that to the modern world. Be a member of the elite Orpheus group and head out around the world to deal with all manner of existential horrors that look to destroy the world. The RPG is up on Kickstarter now.

Here's one that I know has been highly anticipated since it was announced. Free League Publishing will open up pre-orders for their official Alien RPG tomorrow. Head out into space with your crew and try to avoid getting too close to any funny-looking eggs.

Iron GM Games has launched a Kickstarter campaign for Grimmerspace, their new sci-fi/horror RPG setting that utilizes the Starfinder rules set. As you can tell from the name, Grimmerspace is not a nice, friendly, shiny sci-fi setting. It's a lot more dark, dirty, and dangerous. And, I mean, it was co-developed by Sean Astin. Yes, that Sean Astin (You know... Sam from Lord of the Rings).

*bass groove starts up.*
*synth organ kicks in*
Better stop dreaming of the quiet life, 'cause it's the one we'll never know.
And quit running for that runaway bus 'cause those rosy days are few.
Anyway, Monkeyfun Studios is running a Kickstarter campaign for their A Town Called Malice RPG.

Pre-made adventures are super-helpful for the GM on the go. When necessary, they can just be dropped right into a game with minimal prep. Or, a GM can simply use one as a framework to do their own thing. Either way, more ideas floating around is nice. An Inner Darkness is a set of new adventures for Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition. The book is up on Kickstarter now.

We've made it to Friday. Congratulations, everyone! Just gotta get through today and we'll be back to the weekend. I'm looking forward to it. But before we get there, let's nosh on some bite-sized gaming stories.

Today on the platter we have: In the Court of the Goblin King Miniatures Up On Kickstarter, New Turret Available From Puppets War, and H.P. Lovecraft The Dreams in the Witch House Miniatures Set Up On Kickstarter.

Modiphius has anounced a new, updated version of the Achtung! Cthulhu Keeper's and Investigator's Guides, bringing them in line with Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition. Along with that, there's the new Under the Gun short adventure to bring players into that setting quickly and easily.

One of the classic stories that pretty much every gamer knows at least of, if they've not actually read it, The Call of Cthulhu is one of H.P. Lovecraft's greatest works. Now, Free League Publishing is looking to create a new illustrated version, with art by Francois Baranger, having launched a Kickstarter campaign for it. While the initial funding is for just the illustrated novel, a stretch goal adds in a full RPG to it.

Usually in a 1 vs Many game, the 1 is the bad guy. They control all the evil things out there on the board. In Alone, it's the other way around. The 1 is the Hero, trying to escape an infested space ship, while the Many are playing the various terrible traps and aliens they will find along the way. Horrible Games is running a Kickstarter campaign for a new print run of the game that also includes new extras.

Ia! Ia!

The stars are right. Or, they will be right on February 15th. Get over all that lovey-dovey stuff from the day before with a whole heaping helping of horror. Free League Publishing has announced that's the date they'll launch their new Illustrated Call of Cthulhu Kickstarter campaign.

It's always good for the GM of a game to have more resources available to them. With that in mind, RiotMinds is running a Kickstarter campaign for the Carta Monstrorum, a big book of monsters and other horrors for the LexOccultum RPG. Along with that, they're teaming up with writer Steve Savile to work on it.

It's summer vacation, and a group of teenagers have found a secluded set of cabins in the woods where they're planning on having a wild time. Unfortunately for them, they're not alone. A crazed killer is on the loose, slowly hunting them down one by one. Who will survive? Who won't? That's up to you to decide in Slash-Accre, a new horror board game up on Kickstarter now.

A rag-tag group of kids going and solving mysteries and defeating ancient horrors is pretty hot right now in terms of theme. And that's what you get in Tales of Evil, a new horror board game that's up on Kickstarter. Become part of Pizza & Investigation and defeat demons and clear out evils from various locations.

You might think that the world can be strange and cruel, but it's got nothing on the things that lurk just outside of the realm of reality. And when those things try and encroach on our regular existence, stuff begins to go weird. It's up to the different investigators to figure out what's going on and put a stop to it. The Year of New Editions adds another notch to its list with the release of Arkham Horror 3rd Edition from Fantasy Flight Games.
